P3

Artist Profile

Jenna Efrein

I want what every beauty pageant contestant wants. I seek to create empathetic understanding between humans. I attempt to get people to connect to each other through me. People are ethnic and emotional composites. I present a common experience or feature in an uncommon way. The goal is to elicit an automatic response of unifying feeling or identification among the viewers of my work. By emphasizing the links, I hope to challenge people’s perceptions of their differences and focus their consciousness on their similarities.

In my journey through life, I try to keep an open and alert mind. I am bombarded by its many inspirations. It can be as happenstance as someone saying that red is his favorite color duct tape, as in Welcome Wagon Woman. The dual qualities of my material are very important. When people see my work, I want an aspect of it to resonate within them.

Much of my work comes out of feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. I strive to feel less alone and awkwardly unique by better understanding the connection between myself and others. The possibilities of how to do this are limitless. I utilize a diverse range of fields of study to communicate to my audience. It is my aspiration to create a sense of unity and thus tolerance within the community of people I touch: achieving world peace one person at a time.

Relationship to P2

I have never met this man, nor his child. I have met Dawn and spoken with her a few times, but do not know her well. But what I do know from the love and support that she has received from her friends is that this child should be with her and well cared for.
