Jonathan Wagner

Excerpt of article by Elizabeth Bisette:

"Jonathan Wagner received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, double majoring in Painting and Printmaking and Philosophy. While participating in their renowned art program, he became solidly established in the nationally recognized Richmond art scene, showing his work at many venues, including the very popular music venue, the Canal Club. A pre-cursor to his now established trend of accompanying, and incorporating, art with music, art of the moment, as Wagner aptly describes it.

Returning to his native Northern New Jersey, he had a show in SoHo, at Cafe Bar where he brought Essenwest, an eclectic band rooted in Classical and Tradition Jazz in fluxed with British Rock and Roll, this was the beginning of Wagner combining Intelligent Rock music with a variety of different styles of music such as Double Standard, a duo consisting of two experimental DJ’s that were able to influx a variety of music (funk, soul, reggae, hip-hop, gospel, and others) with turntablism. He soon launched JP Wagner Fine Art Studios in Northern NJ, where he independently organizing and promoting many solo shows and a series of group showings of his paintings in association with artists of a variety of mediums in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City. These included a series of exhibitions in Times Square via Tminusone a non-profit organization co-founded by Wagner to promote emerging international artists, musicians and other talent to galleries and nightclubs throughout NJ and NYC..."
